Interview Anouk van Lottum

In this blogpost you will read more about how Anouk van Lottum used De Delftse Bedrijvendagen as an opportunity to get an internship and a job, as well as what she recommends for other visitors of De Delftse Bedrijvendagen.

Anouk van Lottum is a master student in the master track Materials Sciences & Engineering at the TU Delft. Through De Delftse Bedrijvendagen, she came into contact with C-Cube, a company from Delft, where she spent some time working and did an internship for her master. She answers a couple of questions about her experience with De Delftse Bedrijvendagen.

How did you come to De Delftse Bedrijvendagen?

I used to come here during my bachelor already, not so much with a plan but more just for experiencing the company fair. Upon starting my master, I wanted to focus more on what I wanted to do after completing my degree. As I also needed to do an internship, I went to De Delftse Bedrijvendagen to get in touch with some companies.

How did you find your internship there?

I went to the orientation days and talked with some recruiters and finally came at the stand of C-Cube, where it clicked quite well. After two weeks I received an e-mail asking whether I would like to come over for an interview. Since De Delftse Bedrijvendagen are relatively early in the year and I only needed the internship from September, I first went to work for the company and eventually worked through the summer before starting my internship.

Do you have any advice for students visiting De Delftse Bedrijvendagen?

I would try to go there with a plan of what you want to get out of it. I never used to have a plan but just went there and walked round a bit. When I went with the goal of finding an internship, I knew much better which companies I did and did not want to speak with, which helped. Try to talk with a lot of companies and make sure you leave your contact information, they will often mail you.

Even if you don’t really have an idea of where you want to end up it is useful to go there to get an idea of the concept of a company fair, so that you know how it works when you do have a plan.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

In hindsight I only really participated in the orientation days. It would have been useful to also participate in the other events. The Inhouse days for example, I often visit inhouse days nowadays so why not go to them through De Delftse Bedrijvendagen.
